Oral Hygiene with Peroxide

Just last week, a portion of my lower gum began to hurt. When I looked in the mirror, I noticed how irritated it looked and was quite concerned. Portions of the gum looked scaly and discolored. When I ran my finger across the area, the pain was deeper than just the surface. Instead of running to the dentist, I turned to 3% Hydrogen Peroxide.

I began to rinse my mouth with straight peroxide at least once a day (usually twice if I didn't forget). The sensation that happened the moment the peroxide hit the infected area was wild! It was like the solution began attacking the problem area. Little bubbles danced around, stinging the infected portion of my gum. The pain wasn't that bad; it was probably a lot less intense than going to the dentist. I am happy to say that within days the discoloration, irritation, and pain have all disappeared!

There are many stated benefits of using Hydrogen Peroxide for oral health, stopping infection is just one. Click here for some interesting facts about this wonder solution.

Homemade Recipe for Nasal Wash Solution

I have really enjoyed the benefits of daily nasal rinsing. Congestion and sinus problems are a thing of the past. However, it is quite expensive to buy the solution packets. My friend, who worked for a natural grocer, received the inside scoop on how to make the same solution at home. Below is the recipe:

  • 2/3 cup fine sea salt
  • 1/3 cup baking soda (all-natural / no aluminum)
  • 1 heaping teaspoon of Xylitol
Mix the ingredients in a small jar. Use 1/4 teaspoon with each nasal bottle refill.

This is a great way to save money while still enjoying the benefits of daily nasal rinsing.

Massage - The Rolf Method of Structural Integration

I don't feign to understand the entire philosophy to this type of therapy. Although, I can speak from experience that it works!

About a week ago I received a massage from a local certified practitioner and I feel amazing! I was experiencing a lot of pain in my upper back and shoulder areas. Do you think that over 3000 miles in a vehicle can contribute to that pain? (Did I mention we traveled with four small children?) Seth Davis, (the certified practitioner), worked on my back area for over an hour and fifteen minutes and did an excellent job of releasing all the pent up tension. However this treatment works, I completely recommend it! Here is a brief explanation of the goals of this method:

If you can imagine how it feels to have a light, fluid, balanced body, free of pain, stiffness and chronic stress, at ease with itself and the earth's gravitational field, then you will understand the goals of Structural Integration.
For more information visit www.rolfguild.org. If you live in the Glenwood Springs/Rifle area, I recommend you call Seth Davis for some relief today at 970-946-4812.

Do You Know Who Formulates and Manufactures Your Supplements?

Is it important to you to know who actually decides what vitamins and minerals are included in your daily supplements? Should these companies we're entrusting our health to make sure the right balance of ingredients are added? Does it matter to you WHERE these supplements are manufactured? If you answered yes to any one of these questions, you need to read on!

First, to clear up any confusion, the picture of the Flintstones vitamins is for muse and NOT an endorsement. I used it to make a point that oftentimes we just pick the supplement with the most appealing label; or the vitamin bottle that has a cartoon character we used to love to watch...yaba daba doooooo! However, I think we and our children deserve better! I have found a supplement company that formulates their own multi-vitamins and supplements. Naturopathic physicians, who intimately know the physiology of the human body, carefully create these well-balanced formulas. This company, Vitality Corp., also takes great pains to ensure each ingredient is either organic or natural in origin. They visit each supplier to ensure their practices are ethical, moral, and sustainable. As a family, we have used these supplements successfully to build great health. Gretchen and I have four healthy, beautiful children (with a fifth on the way)!

I invite you peruse the Vitality Catalog and try these wonderful products. Best of all, all Vitality products come with a 60-Day Satisfaction Guarantee! If for any reason within 60 days of purchase, you are not completely satisfied that the products are performing exactly as you expected, you can return the products for a credit or refund.

Do You Eat "Good?"

When engaged in conversation with people about food, I oftentimes hear the statement, "I eat good." What does that mean? They eat enough portions sufficient to feed five people? That statement may be laughable; however, each of us have our own ideas of what eating "good" entails.

For example, just because you consume products with "less sodium" doesn't mean you're eating "good." The myth that low-fat items are good for you, can be a detriment to your health. Every cell in your body is surrounded by fat. Therefore, low-fat is not the goal but "what-fat." How much and what types of fat are you consuming? If they are animal fats, how were the animals raised? How much animal meats do you eat on a weekly basis? Do you consume fresh organic fruits and vegetables on a regular basis? How do you feel physically and emotionally overall on a daily basis? Do you have plenty of energy to tackle your daily tasks? These are just some questions we can ask ourselves to determine if we are eating "good." (This post is not intended to give all the answers, but to stimulate our thinking about our food choices).

The other day, my family and I were watching a documentary called Food Inc. I recommend all 6.6 billion people on the planet to watch this film. The information just may change the way you look at food...it just may change your food habits...it may change the world!

Be Blessed,

How Important is Vitamin D?

Here is important information regarding Vitamin D (Published by Dr. Joseph Mercola):

The compound we call vitamin D can no longer properly be considered a vitamin. For most mammals, it is not in any sense even a nutrient. Nevertheless, vitamin D resembles true vitamins inasmuch as humans -- who are cut off from the critical solar ultraviolet wavelengths by reason of latitude, clothing, or shelter-- depend on an external source of the substance, just as they do forthe true essential nutrients.

What is Vitamin D?

Vitamin D, calciferol, is a fat-soluble vitamin. It is found in food, but also can be made in your body after exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun. Vitamin D exists in several forms, each with a different activity. Some forms are relatively inactive in the body, and have limited ability to function as a vitamin. The liver and kidney help convert vitamin D to its active hormone form.

The major biologic function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus.Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones. It promotes bone mineralization in concert with a number of other vitamins, minerals, and hormones. Click here to read more.
